1. Salma Hayek

Salma began her career in Mexico acting in telenovelas such as “Teresa”.

In the beginning of the 90s Salma moved to Hollywood and worked in films such as Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn and Wild Wild West.

Around the year 2000, Salma founded film production company Ventanarosa, through which she produces film and television projects.

Salma has also devoted her time to charitable work to help raise awareness on violence against women and discrimination against immigrants.

2. Jennifer Lopez

Singer, actress, dancer, producer, fashion designer and business woman.

Since her iconic performance as Tex-Mex legend Selena Quintanilla, Jennifer’s career has been on the rise.

Jennifer has found success and recognition in the film, music and television industry, while always remaining true to her Puerto Rican roots.

Currently, Jennifer is regarded as the most influential Hispanic performer in the United States, credited with breaking racial barriers in the entertainment industry.

3. Sofía Vergara

The Colombian model and actress has become a household name and one of the highest-paid actresses in television for her work in the popular comedy Modern Family.

Sofía started her career co-hosting two television shows for Spanish-language television network Univisión in the late 1990s.

In 2014, she was ranked as the 32nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

4. Gina Rodriguez

Gina Rodriguez has gained critical acclaim for her work in the television series Jane the Virgin, role for which she has been nominated for three Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Gina was born in Chicago to a Puerto Rican family. She attended New York University and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2006.

In 2015 Gina became a member of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Board of Directors. This non-profit organization supports Hispanic American higher education.

5. Eva Longoria

Eva was born in Corpus Christi to Mexican-American parents.

She rose to fame for her work in the television series Desperate Housewives for which she received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.

Complementing her acting career, Eva has also worked as a producer and in 2008 opened a restaurant, Beso, in Hollywood.

Eva has also been very involved with immigration issues and political activism. In 2013 she received a master’s degree in Chicano Studies from California State University, Northridge.

Latinas are definitely making a name for themselves in Hollywood and, at the same time, they are using their fame and popularity to speak up and raise awareness on important issues such as immigration and equality.
